A NEW ALLIANCE BETWEEN QUITO FOOD BANK AND REPUBLICA DEL CACAO

While 821 million people suffer from hunger in the world,  a third of all food produced in the world is wasted. This absurd waste also occurs in the city of Quito where more than 100 tons of food, suitable for human consumption, is wasted per day. As part of the solution to this social problem, the Quito Food Bank (QFB) was created. Its objective is to avoid food waste by generating concrete actions that will help fight hunger in the city. This organization collects and selects food received as donation, which is in optimal condition, and distributes it to more than 10,000 people each month.

Seen in the opportunity to contribute with an inclusive and responsible food distribution; República del Cacao has formed an alliance with the Quito Food Bank, for the development of social entrepreneurship through gastronomy. The project is based on chocolate donation used to empower beneficiaries of the Quito Food Bank through workshops taught by allied Chefs of República del Cacao, thus creating a new source of income for these beneficiaries.

In República del Cacao, we find value in participating in projects and alliances with several actors of the cocoa and chocolate value chain to promote the agro-industrial, inclusive, differentiated and competitive development of the country. We are convinced that with these actions, the most vulnerable of populations will gain attention and develop opportunities of transcendental impact.
